Jerome Clayton

Mr. Jerome Clayton dominated the St Louis Softball scene from 1985-1992. A multi-sport athlete turned softball slugger, starred for Central Paving in Moberly, Missouri before launching his career, and lots of softballs, with the St Louis Merchants for 7 remarkable seasons. Originally a star basketball player at one of the top JUCOs in the country with former NBA star Gerald Wilkins, Jerome became a hitting machine always batting in the “heart” of the order for two of the best teams in the Midwest. Jerome was a “5-tool” superstar on the most dominant team in town, the St Louis Merchants. He won games with his speed, arm and bat. In 1984 he led Central Paving with a .950 batting average and 60 Home Runs. The following year he got the “call” to play with the Merchants. Known by many simply as, “Big Rome”.
